250 cars competed in training for the 24-hour race. From the small Honda Civic and VW Golf up to the Porsche GT3 with 440 HP and up to Chrysler Viper with 800 HP.

Our team started in the class touring cars up to 3000 cc, with a BMW M3, against 15 competitors in the class.

210 vehicles qualified for the race. This is the maximum permitted starting field for the Nürburgring, which consists of the Grand Prix circuit with 4.5 km and the notorious Nordschleife (20.5 km) with over 180 bends.

The 120,000 spectators take this race festival as an occasion to celebrate the largest barbecue party in the world. Around the clock, around the Nordschleife, there is only one party. This is unique in the world.

After difficult training, not a single lap on the track due to rain and oil or accidents, the MK team only finished 61st overall.

Due to very fast pilots, who all drove error-free, the fastest pit stops, with heated tires (at 75°) and an optimally running BMW M3, the MK crew worked their way up to the 8th place overall. This made the MK-BMW the best BMW in the entire field from 9.00 a.m. on Sunday morning.

2 hours before the end a coupling damage occurred. This was repaired, but took 20 minutes time. As a result, the MK-BMW fell back to 11th place, and it was possible to work one's way back up to 9th place until the finish.

Anyone who sees the chequered flag after 24 hours is a winner!

The MK-Team was 9th overall and 1st in the class by a large margin.

At the Nürburgring Nordschleife, top speed is only reached on the "Döttinger Höhe" section.

The vehicle was driven by 4 drivers:

• Michael Krankenberg, Ötigheim
• Roland Asch, Book of Bunting
• Frank Schmickler, Cologne
• Peter Oberndorfer, Munich

There is a pit stop every 2 hours:

• driver changes
• Refuelling with conventional fuel pistol (control element)
• change all wheels
• Clean windscreen + safety check

The time required for such a pit stop is approx. 1 minute 30 seconds.

For the 24 hour race 1.200 l petrol and 10 sets of tyres will be used.

The team consisted of:

• 11 mechanics
• 1 team leader
• 3 persons for radio and timekeeping
• 1 cook
